Whether you are a student trying to complete a degree, you’re working full time to get to the top of the career ladder, or you’re a parent who stays at home to look after the kids, time feels like it slips through your fingers like sand from the beach. One minute you’re planning how you’re going to nail it in the boardroom on a Sunday night while prepping your meals, and the next, it’s Wednesday and you have no idea how you got there. There may be 24 hours in the day, but when you’re trying to work out how you’re going to find the time to workout, it gets difficult.
When you’re run off your feet, getting fit is probably the last thing on your mind. Not only do you feel like there’s no time to get your body pummelled into the shape that you want to be in, there’s the sheer expense of committing to a monthly gym membership with all the bells and whistles. Plus, why would you want to commit to those types of memberships when you have barely the time for general living? If you want to get fit, you need to get creative, and below, we’ve got 4 ways that you can put your fitness first without compromising your time.
- Use The Pavement. You were blessed with a working pair of legs, and there is something to be said for muscle building when it comes to getting outside into the world. If the weather turns, check out contract free gyms so that you can use a pay as you go option for a workout in the rain. Walking can be incorporated into your day without too much effort, so consider what you want to gain from your fitness and build it up with walks, running and pounding out the pavement.
- Ad Breaks. You’re tired, but when you’re watching your favourite show there’s bound to be an add break. Keep a set of weights nearby and use those three to five minute intermissions to lift. You can get in a few reps with weights, do some push ups and even squat on the spot in those minutes. Not only will you burn calories, you’ll build muscle and do it in small bites so that you don’t feel like you’re working too hard.
- Plan It. You may not feel like there’s time in the day, but it’s likely you make time to shower, or eat. Well, your fitness matters as much as those things, so get your workout planned into the time you’ve got. You don’t have to stick to a routine, but choose a 20-30 minute window in the day and stick to it.
- HIIT. There are so many cardio videos out there online that you can follow for free, and HIIT workouts are the perfect cardio shot to inject into your day. Think about what you want from your workout routine and find a HIIT video to match.
These four ways to fit in your fitness should help you take a step toward managing your health better. Give them a go!
