The Little Things: How Treats Become a Great Path to Self-Care

We are told that in life, we have to be grateful for what we’ve got, but sometimes, we can feel that we just hit brick wall after brick wall. When we experience continuous knockbacks, we’ve got to remember that it’s the little pleasures in life that will get us through the little problems we experience on a daily basis. Doing things that make you happy can boost your self-esteem and therefore, will have a positive impact on your mental health. But many people feel guilty for indulging in treats, but there is no need to feel guilty anymore. What are the best ways to indulge in self-care, while also treating yourself, and why is it good for you?

It Is Good for Your Well-BeingĀ

While people believe pursuing long-term goals is the key to a happy and fulfilling life, a study showed that short-term pleasures were just as good for our well-being. A study published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin highlighted that a great ability to pursue pleasures in the short term improved well-being and life satisfaction. If you feel guilty for indulging in little treats, the reality is that these little things can be good for you.

You Are Focusing on the Person That Matters

Sometimes, we spend more time focusing on others, rather than ourselves. You might be one of those chronic people-pleasers, but when we are focusing on making everybody else happy, we can neglect ourselves in the process. Therefore, indulging in a treat is the perfect way to rebalance, and make yourself remember that you matter just as much as everyone else. But how do we make the most of this? The great thing is that we can buy something, but if we treat ourselves to a meal or something that is more fleeting in nature, we may not reap the long-term benefits. However, if you choose something like jewellery, this is a nice little reminder of how to place yourself on a pedestal. Whether itā€™s indulging in opal jewellery from Opals Australia or buying that dress that we have been lusting after for so long, the act of buying ourselves a treat is giving ourselves express permission to view ourselves as an important person.

The Little Things Mean a LotĀ

When we experience so many knock backs or obstacles in life, they gradually accumulate in our minds and bodies. Looking after yourself is about making sure that you fend off the gremlins when they arise. A treat doesn’t have to be something physical, it can be something as simple as taking an afternoon nap. We need to think about how we feel on a daily basis and take the opportunities to make sure that we aren’t digging ourselves into a deeper hole. If this means that the chores are put off until tomorrow so you can have an early night, so be it! If you want to stay in and have a duvet day, rather than visiting your friends if this means you will be happier for it, why should you do anything else? Self-care is about the little treats.
