Creating Your Healthier Life.
When does a person’s story begin? For me, it began the day I chose to make changes in my life. The first big choice was my move from Brisbane to Melbourne in 2001.
I was working in the financial services industry, had a well-paid and fun job, was married and began living in a beautiful suburb of Melbourne. Why then was I still unhappy? In hindsight that move was my first attempt to make a big change thinking it would lead to a better life. Of course, it didn’t – it actually took 10 more years and the help of a very caring GP, to build the courage to change my life.
Since 2011 I have immersed myself in learning about healthy living and I apply my learnings daily. My first step was to surrender to my GP who advised me to see a counsellor. For me, this enabled me to talk about whatever I needed to talk about. At that point, I was convinced that my life was “normal”. I was the mum of an active 5-year-old, I had a full time job, I was planning a home renovation and trying to be a friend, sister, daughter and wife as best as I could. Wasn’t that just the way life is? Wasn’t it normal to be tired all the time? No one REALLY woke up in the morning feeling energized and joyful did they?
Hell yes! They do!
Life is meant to be exciting, joyful, interesting, challenging and fun. Yes, people do wake up feeling great every day (well almost)!
Our lives CAN be healthier in every aspect and it starts with surrender. Surrendering the feeling of believing you know how life “should be”. Surrendering to new ways of being.
Unfortunately, for me, this meant that I had reached a point where I believed I had tried everything and it hadn’t worked. A place where almost anything was better than remaining where I was, even though I was terrified of the immediate consequences of making change.
My healthy life journey has led to me wanting to encourage others on their own paths to maximising their potential. I have achieved milestones that I truly believed were not possible for me. I have built and continue to build self-respect for how far I have come. I am grateful for my life’s experiences and everyone who has contributed to it. I now understand that our lives are truly in our own hands and we CAN change them if we choose.
Over coming months my goal is to share with you the foundation stones on which to build a healthy life for you. I know there are some basics that I needed to get right to ensure my mind, body and soul were in alignment and I will share these with you. This then provides a foundation to design your ideal life.
And if there is any part of you that is saying that you are not important enough or you need to put others needs before your own, consider this. By being your best self, your happiest self, your most fulfilled self, you will actually set the best possible example for those around you. You will be teaching your children to live a loving and worthwhile life, you will have more energy to share with your family, more enthusiasm to enjoy time with your partner.
