3 Keys to Happier Hair

Beautiful, happy, healthy hair!

Every woman wants to look in the mirror and see hair that makes her smile. Hair is our crowning glory that has us feeling like a Queen – confident, powerful and ready to rule the world!

The good news is it’s not hard to have gorgeous, healthy hair when you know how to treat it right.  By incorporating the following tips into your lifestyle, you will slowly but surely see and feel your hair transform into the very best version of itself.

Here are three ways to help your hair to health and happiness …

  1. Choose the right products

To choose the right products, you need to know your hair type and texture. Is your hair curly or straight, thick or fine, oily, dry or normal?

There are shampoos, conditioners and products for every hair type including ones that bring life to limp hair, care for coloured hair, repair split ends, and so on. For example:

  • Fine hair needs lighter products such as volumizing mousse or lotion stylers.
  • Thick and dry curls crave moisture! Use a deep treatment every time you wash, and don’t forget a leave-in conditioner and curl cream.
  • Grey hair tends to be coarser and less controllable, and more susceptible to damage – use hydrating products, and a weekly deep-conditioning mask.

Choosing quality products without harmful ingredients will go a long way to keeping your follicles fabulous.

  1. Show your hair some love

Treat your hair with care to bring out its natural beauty.

  • Don’t wash your hair more frequently than necessary.
  • Massage your scalp often.
  • Use tepid water to wash and rinse hair. Hot water can strip hair of essential oils, leading to dryness and damage.
  • Wet hair is vulnerable to breakage – gently pat dry rather than vigorously rub. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle, rather than a brush.
  • Air dry hair rather than blow-dry. If you must blow-dry, use the lowest heat settings possible to avoid damaging hair.
  • Get regular haircuts to keep hair healthy and prevent split ends.
  • Protect hair from harsh environments eg chlorine in pools. Wear a bathing cap. Put moisturising product through hair.
  • Use a pick on curls rather than combing or brushing.
  • When dying hair to cover greys, use a product especially formulated to be gentle.
  1. Look after ALL of you

Take a holistic approach – how you treat your mind and body affects all of you, including your luscious locks.

  • Eat a balanced diet – protein, zinc and omega-3 are especially important for hair and scalp health. Protein sources are lean meat, poultry, fish, beans, and eggs.  Eat nuts and green, leafy vegetables for zincOmega-3 fatty acids are in cold-water fish and flax seed.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol.
  • Get enough sleep and exercise.
  • Reduce stress.
  • Do things you enjoy.

By looking after yourself, you can reap the many rewards of health and vitality – including happier hair!
