3 Ways That Working From Home Is Bad For Your Health

Remote working is the new norm for a lot of businesses and that means that there are more people working from home. There are so many great benefits for both the employer and the employee but it’s not all good news. People that have never worked from home probably think that it’s great and there aren’t any downsides but in reality, it can actually be quite bad for your health. If you’re working from home, these are some of the health hazards that you need to watch out for.

Back And Shoulder Problems

When you’re sitting at a desk all day long working on a computer, your neck, back, and shoulders can start to tense up and get very tight. If you don’t do anything about it, you’ll start to get a lot of pain, but there are simple ways to deal with it. Firstly, you need to get up and move around as much as possible so your muscles don’t get stiff from inactivity. It’s also a good idea to do regular stretches and you can also do some median nerve glides to activate the nerves in your neck which are often the root cause of shoulder pain. If you’re really struggling with pain, a good massage can help to relieve that tension a lot. Standing desks are also a great way to stop back pain because they really help with your posture.

Mental Health Issues

Mental health problems are so widespread and most of us will deal with them at some point in our lives. But people that work from home often have a higher risk of developing mental health issues than people that work traditional jobs. Working on your own can be very isolating so when you’re stressed or you’re having a bad day, you’re taking on that burden all on your own without anybody to share it with. It’s important that you take extra care of your mental health and make an effort to seek out social interaction as much as possible.

Weight Gain

Weight gain is a very common issue for people that work from home because it’s so easy. When you’re working in your house and the kitchen is right there, it’s so quick to grab snacks whenever you like. If you combine this with the added stress of working at home, you’ve got a recipe for some serious weight gain. But if you were working in an office, you’d be likely to take a lunch with you and you wouldn’t be snacking so often. Inactivity is also an issue because you’re not even making the journey to work so some days, you’ll be eating lots of unhealthy snacks and barely moving around at all, and that’s when you’re going to put on weight.

The best way to stop yourself from gaining weight is to plan your meals out and make lunches like you normally would. Get yourself some healthy snack alternatives as well so you’re not always reaching for the bad stuff.

It’s important that you manage these health issues properly when you’re working from home, otherwise, you could seriously damage your health.
